This is a FANTASTIC series which I highly recommend
(Episode 1)
Physicist Jim Al-Khalili travels through Syria, Iran, Tunisia and Spain to tell the story of the great leap in scientific knowledge that took place in the Islamic world between the 8th and 14th centuries.
Its legacy is tangible, with terms like algebra, algorithm and alkali all being Arabic in origin and at the very heart of modern science - there would be no modern mathematics or physics without algebra, no computers without algorithms and no chemistry without alkalis.
For Baghdad-born Al-Khalili this is also a personal journey and on his travels he uncovers a diverse and outward-looking culture, fascinated by learning and obsessed with science. From the great mathematician Al-Khwarizmi, who did much to establish the mathematical tradition we now know as algebra, to Ibn Sina, a pioneer of early medicine whose Canon of Medicine was still in use as recently as the 19th century, he pieces together a remarkable story of the often-overlooked achievements of the early medieval Islamic scientists.

Child Devolopment 101 Simple Question
If you have visited here recently you might have read that I've gone back to school to take Child Development courses to get my Pre-school certification. Our professor sets up scenarios all the time and tonight asked us to set up our own multiple choice question for class next week concerning discipline. So, I thought I'd share mine here.
A very SIMPLE question, Child Development 101, what do you do with a toddler who
keeps doing what you have supposedly asked him not to do? Lets say he keeps
getting in the paint bucket and graffitis the facade of your condo over and over again. You are telling him you want him to stop, but thus far your "discipline" has been utterly non-effective. It just might be that the toddler doesn't really think you mean what you have said because you haven't exactly been consistent in your "discipline". Choose the option below which you think is best.
A. Continue telling him every so often, "No no, don't do that, paint isn't for the facade of our house honey". Leave the paint up there because your toddler is just SO cute and you've figured out what a rascal he is. You might even leave a little
graffiti note along side his paint job saying what a rascal he is!
B. Remove the paint from the facade of the house, remove the bucket of paint so
he can't do it again.
C. Just ignore it because you are too busy to bother. Maybe he will grow out of it, but then again, maybe not. It's so hard to keep your eye on a toddler! Why is it that people expect SO much out of parents these days?
D. Kick back and enjoy it. Tell your toddler you know he's just showing you how much he loves you. Granted, it isn't very nice behavior and he seems to be addicted to it. You COULD always tell the toddler that you hope he doesn't grow up continuing bad addictive behavior like Michael Jackson. For good measure, you could maybe blast the song "Beat It" out your front door but secretly you hope he moonwalks while he keeps on "painting".
Child Development 101, which option do you think would be the most effective choice?
When making your decision you SHOULD keep the homeowner's association in mind, because you are leasing from them and they have even posted a little sign in the office giving directions to your condo because they think it is so nice.

Source It Baby: The Latest "Nadya Suleman" Juicy Morsel
So, here you go, (just making a quick post here). Chaos rains poltergeists and knife wielding children chasing their grandmother it seems at Madonna Lane in La Habra! Nadya says the house is haunted in her latest Radar Online video and BILD.com claims that Angela told the National Enquirer that her grandson chased her with a meat knife!
I really hope she catches one of the ghosts on the self-made video she is doing!
Oh LORDY LORDY LORDY. Ever so eager to read the actual story in the National Enquirer, I lingered at the checkout counter at the supermarket this morning scouring this magazine. ONLY to find that there isn't a story whatsoever about any such thing!
Oh well, I am SURE that BILD.com which received a third of the reprimands from the German Press Council in 2004 and is most famous for "Sex, Smut and Shock" couldn't POSSIBLY be fudging here now could they?
IF the National Enquirer indeed reports this story, I WILL update this post.
Ciao!
Woops, post script, be sure to check out the Erotica section of BILD.com, with SUNGLASSES ON! What a fine and classy source of "news" it is! Oh, and OOOLALA
Pretty girls in skimpy clothes - called Page Three girls in the United Kingdom - appear on Bild's page one below the fold as "Seite-eins-Mädchen" (Page One Girls).
___________________________
Update: I promised to update if the National Enquirer did report this story. My market stocks its magazines Fridays as it turns out, so when I went again this morning the new issue was on the stand. This article is so disturbing I can't even find the words for it. Since the article is not available online, I will type the salient points out:
* Angela reports that her grandson goes into "wild rages and becomes uncontrollable" and that he went after her with a knife and has thrown hard objects at her. (EDITED at bottom)
* A "family friend" who claims to have witnessed the above incident confirmed that after Angela wrestled the knife from him he "ran at her, kicking and punching". Angela had to run into her room for protection. According to the "family friend" Nadya just SAT there and did nothing.
* The "family friend" claims that this son also shoved Angela at the hospital when they were visiting and that she fell down and hurt herself (and there was no hospital staff that witnessed this? Wouldn't they be charting this incident and calling social services themselves if they did?)
* The "family friend" states that when Ed is around he "yells at his grandson", but that then Nadya, "yells at Ed, telling him not to interfere"
* Angela thinks her grandson is acting out because he is depressed because he is not getting enough attention from his mother after the octuplets were born.
* The "family friend" also said "Nadya doesn't know how to be a mother. She spews a lot of psychobabble instead of correcting the children. To be honest, I'm worried about the kids with Nadya"
___________________________________________________
Ok, I'm going to take a deep breath here and bullet point my concerns:
* The National Enquirer better DAMN well be quoting both Angela and the "family friend" correctly. IF either one of these entities informed the NE that this son of Nadya's is in treatment, that SHOULD have been included in the article.
* Did the National Enquirer pay either Angela or the "family friend" for the interview?
* This incident occurred five months ago. Why, when Angela has had ample opportunity to tell of this incident are we only hearing about it now? Gee, there she was with the opportunity to tell Dr. Phil on numerous occasions when she was with him. Did she tell him? If not, WHY not then and why now?
* If this report is true, yelling by Ed is NOT the answer. These are classic symptoms of conduct disorder which must have TIMELY and early intervention. This little boy needs HELP because HE is suffering. Angela could very well be correct, he is depressed, but now, if true, he is exhibiting dangerous behavior, not only to himself, but towards others.
* Keeping in mind that this is the National Enquirer reporting this story, they QUOTED Angela and the "family friend". Social Services MUST follow up on this report
if they are not aware of this incident. Again, this occurred five months ago, he may very well be monitored and treated appropriately. But if he is not, this must start soon for HIS sake as well as the others in that household.
* If he has not been monitored, if this really did occur and there have been even more incidents, this situation is more than serious.
* IMO, if Angela gave this interview, I just have no words. Despicable in my book. If she didn't go to the proper AUTHORITIES and report this herself when it occurred, then she has CERTAINLY fallen down on the job she claims she excels at, being the sacrificing grandmother. Some may say a mother shouldn't turn in their own child, WELL, she just did if she gave the interview, and NOT to who it matters, but to a tabloid and the public. This family is in need of MUCH help if this story is true, and certainly does not need the public to know the gory details. If Angela loves her grandchildren like she claims to, she would keep her trap SHUT and ONLY speak to those in a position to intervene or help. Her yapping to the National Enquirer in this manner does neither.
I may add more later, this is just too disturbing on too many levels.
EDITED: After reading NUMEROUS reports and comments on gossip sites of this "event" as reported in the National Enquirer with so many UNIFORMED people out there talking absolute nonsense that this was either one of the twins (Caleb) OR "the autistic one", Aiden. I edit to write DIRECTLY from the NE as "reported:
"ONE OF NADYA SULEMAN'S OLDER CHILDREN ATTACKED HIS GRANDMOTHER WITH A STEAK KNIFE (and) Her son also kicked his younger brother Caleb, 2 in the head".
GOT THAT? One of her OLDER CHILDREN. What does "older" mean to you? Furthermore, the report states specifically that Ed when he is around "yells at his grandson" If this were Aiden, Nadya's autistic child, is Ed yelling at him? I hope to God not! This "report" is referring to either Elijah or JJ but does not specify which one. Again, got that? Caleb, the twin was a VICTIM of this same child per this "report", NOT the perpetrator.

Rick Warren: "Christian" Wolf in Sheep's Clothing Adresses ISNA At Their Convention
Oh yes, Pastor Rick Warren was there alright, last night speaking at the ISNA convention. He gave a rousing keynote speech that was applauded by all so it seems. Only................................Let's compare and contrast what he spoke last night to a blog post he wrote just last week to his flock explaining why he is mingling with Muslims.
Last night:
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/warren-convention-muslims-2483889-interfaith-want
and
http://www.christianpost.com/article/20090705/rick-warren-to-muslims-talk-is-cheap-let-s-work-together/index.html
Last week's blog post which HE wrote addressing the naysayers in his flock:
http://www.saddlebackfamily.com/blogs/newsandviews/index.html?contentID=2625
Last night:
“I will tell you that I am not interested in interfaith dialogue. I am interested in interfaith project. There is a big difference,”
Blogpost to his flock:
No one is ever converted by labeling, condemnation, or anger. James 1:20 (KJV) says, “For the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.” We must LOVE people into God’s family and overcome evil with good. Again, Jesus is our model. He said, “If anyone hears me and doesn't obey me, I am not his judge—for I have come to save the world and not to judge it.” John 12:47 (NLT) Judgment will come later. If we want to have a Christ-like ministry, we must not waste any time judging unbelievers (Jesus didn’t), but instead, do everything we can to build relationships of love and respect and trust with unbelievers. For many unbelievers, the barrier to salvation is not the credibility of Jesus but our own lack of credibility and love for them."
Question: He says he's not interested in interfaith dialog, just what IS his "project"? He's "LOVING" people into "God's family" (his version) and he's going to overcome EVIL with "good", say what? What "evil" is he overcoming?
Last night:
"Tolerance is not enough," Warren said. "People don't want to be tolerated, they want to be respected, they want to be listened to. They want to be valued."
Blogpost to his flock:
Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Luke 5:31 (NIV) If you want to have a Christ-like ministry, you have to associate with the people Jesus did – unbelievers!..... Every time I speak to any non-Christian group, I get criticized by well-meaning believers who don’t really understand how much Jesus loves lost people."
Boy, that sure sounds like "respect to me"! The "non-believers" that he is co-mingling with are "lost" and "sinners"!
Last night:
“You know what I discovered is when you walk down the middle of the road you get hit coming and going,” the evangelical pastor said. “Actually, it is easier to be an extremist of any kind because then you only have one group of people mad at you. But if you actually try to build relationships, like invite an evangelical pastor to your gathering, you’ll get criticize for it, so will I. But that is not what matters,” he said.
Question: What matters to Rick Warren?
Blogpost to his flock:
Both Jesus and Paul were very strategic in who they spoke to, what they said, and how they said it. Jesus used a style of speaking unlike any of the religious professionals. “The common people heard him gladly. (Mark 12:37 KJV) The NIV translation of this verse says, “The large crowd listened to him with DELIGHT.” If Jesus preached today, a lot professors and preachers would criticize his communication style, but he said, “The Father who sent me commanded me what to say AND HOW TO SAY IT.” John 12:49 (NIV) I’ve been studying Jesus’ sermon style for 35 years and the more I learn HOW he said things amazes me at his insight into human behavior and receptivity."
Question: Just what is his underlying motivation that he wants "recepted"? Note the use of the word "hate" in both
Last night:
"You can disagree with someone without hating them, without being afraid of them," Warren said.
Some are taking Warren's participation Saturday as a sign of Islam becoming more accepted in America, according to a recent article on the event by the Associated Press.
Blogpost to his flock:
"Just know the goal of every speaking engagement is always the same: The global glory of God. We build bridges of love – from our hearts to hearts of even those who hate us – so that Jesus can walk across! You cannot win your enemies to Christ. You can only win your friends."
Soooo.......there he is, saying "Christians" need to not hate anyone but he needs to evangelize to those who "hate us"
Un-FREAKING believable. There he is in bold print writing to his flock that he is approaching the "lost", the "sinners", those who need to be "healed" and those who "hate us" and this is seen as a feather in the cap of Muslim groups such as MPAC and ISNA because they have snagged him to come and speak at their events. I am VERY concerned about this. There are so many Christian speakers who are truly respectful of Islam and seek interfaith understanding. This man is about as far from that as you can get, yet there he is. Wonder what he will tell his flock about his latest speaking engagement, that you can catch more flies (Muslims) with honey than with vinegar? How is he going to be able to continue selling this evangelism to his own flock? They are going to want SUCCESS which means Muslim converts to Christianity. For the life of me, I cannot understand why Muslim organizations would want to touch this man with a ten foot poll.
Caveat: I am AMICABLY divorced from a Muslim and am writing this post out of respect and concern for my Muslim brothers and sisters in peace. I personally feel that if this man comes knocking at your door, you need to be aware of not only his motivation
but also how he views you as his "project" to save as in his spoken word you all need to be saved. This is HORRENDOUS thinking in my mind. His "flock" is expecting results. Believe you me, he is too.

Sarah Palin's "Tina Fey" Resignation Speech
Ok, I've heard it all now. She's quitting because she doesn't want to spend Alaska's money by remaining governor until her term is up. Yep, all those lame duck governors oughta be put on notice, QUIT now. Un FREAKING believable, so here goes, the LINK to her full speech. "Enjoy" LOLOL

As this story unwinds with the pundits chiming in, we now have Dick Morris whose penchant for having his toes sucked by mistresses saying Sarah Palin "took a big risk" in resigning!!! This is getting more absurd by the minute. PaLEEEEZE! Come on Saturday Night Live, ya GOTTA do this one.
Oooh Boy, HERE is an interesting morsel. (ps stalker, you're still considered automatically deleted-you sure do spend a whole lot of time spinning your wheels here)

Second IDF soldier refuses orders until army probes his claim Palestinians were abused
Second IDF soldier refuses orders until army probes his claim Palestinians were abused
By Anshel Pfeffer
A second IDF soldier has refused to continue following orders unless his complaints of violence toward Palestinians are investigated, Haaretz has learned. As with another infantry man from the same brigade - who was sentenced to 30 days in military prison last week after refusing to participate in his unit's operations in the territories - the second soldier, who can only be identified as A., came to his decision following a raid by the brigade's Haruv battalion in the village of Kifl Hares in the West Bank on March 26.
A. told his friends that soldiers from the platoon acted with unusual violence toward the residents of the village. "We were sent to look for firearms, but didn't find any weapons," the soldier said. "So we confiscated kitchen knives. But what I was most shocked about was the looting. One soldier took 20 shekels. Soldiers went into homes and looked for stuff to steal."
A. also told of an assault on a mentally handicapped civilian. "He was just shouting at soldiers but then one soldier decided to attack him, so they beat the hell out of him - riffle butt to the head"

Luke Campbell, Director of Eyeworks Productions Visited Nadya Suleman At Her Home!!!
So, as it turns out, THIS picture that Octorazzi took of two men at Nadya Suleman's house, one of them turns out to be someone VERY interesting who has been following him on Twitter. The man on the left in the striped shirt is none other than Luke Campbell who if you go to HIS twitter PAGE states the following:
About to meet C4 in London with my report from the frontline, no one has spent time like mine in Octo-Mom's inner sanctum in Los Angeles...
Notice that LukeTV/Luke Campbell is using the same photo of him that Octorazzi took.
What is C4? That would be CHANNEL 4 in London which just happens to be the channel that airs "Half Ton Man" one of Eyeworks productions that Luke Campbell directed.
NOTE: Near the top of THAT link is a link for ANOTHER Luke Campbell who is the frontman for 2Live Crew. That link should NOT be on the IMBD profile for the person who produced "Half Ton Man" who is the SAME person who was at Nadya's that Octorazzi photographed there last week and the SAME person following him on Twitter. ( go to his "Following" of who he is following and you will see he is following Octorazzi)
So there you go, Luke Campbell who directed "Half Ton Man" for Eyeworks visited Nadya last week at her home AND is following Octorazzi on Twitter.
(I made the mistake also because of the INCORRECT link to Luke Campbell of 2Live Crew being on the IMBD link for Luke Campbell of Eyeworks. The two men are two DIFFERENT men and not connected in any way. IMBD, get your act together LOLOL)
OK guess what, I just found a picture of the Luke Campbell that is attributed with a long list of movie credits on the IMBD link. (NO not the Luke Campbell of 2Live Crew!)
Want to see it?
HERE you GO.
Now notice, that the IMBD link credits him with directing "The Girl Who Lives in the Dark"
NOTE the link I just posted above for the picture of Luke Campbell lists "The Girl Who Lives in the Dark"
So tell me, is THIS person the same one that Octorazzi got a shot of at Nadya's last week?
Sure looks like it to me! He's an award winning documentarian!
(interesting visitor from my site meter, 6 hrs. 41 minutes: 81.*3.***.114 gw.eyeworks.tv Hi there! Want to let me know who the second person in Octorazzi's picture was since I'm pretty sure the guy on the left is Luke Campbell? You could let me know if I'm wrong too. Pretty please. One other question pretty please, is the guy on the right in Octorazzi's photo Chris Bould who works with Luke Campbell? Oh, here's a better picture. Maybe if you link here again you can leave a comment)

Canadians Set to Sponsor Iraqi Palestinian Refugees
Canadians Set to Sponsor Palestinian Refugees
The refugees who have been denied asylum and rights in Iraq are extremely vulnerable and in poorly situated camps. Mennonite church are helping with sponsorship.
by Gladys Terichow
Some of the 336 Palestinian refugees stranded in an isolated refugee camp on the Iraq-Syria border will soon have new homes in Canada.
Gloria Nafziger (centre) visits the Al Tanf refugee camp, one of three make-shift refugee camps along the border between Syria and Iraq for Palestinians from Iraq.
Through its private sponsorship program the Canadian government is making it possible for churches and other private sponsors to sponsor some of the residents living in the Al Hol refugee camp, one of three make-shift refugee camps along the border between Syria and Iraq, said Gloria Nafziger of Amnesty International-Canada.
Nafziger represented the Canadian Council for Refugees on a visit to the three camps in November 2008 and highlighted the need for immediate action during a speaking tour hosted by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) refugee programs in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Colombia.
About ten Mennonite churches in Canada have expressed interest in sponsoring families from the Al Hol camp, said Ed Wiebe, national coordinator for MCC’s refugee programs. He anticipates Mennonite churches will sponsor more than 50 individuals.
About 3,000 Palestinian refugees are trapped in the border camps, said Nafziger during her Manitoba visit. They fled killings, kidnappings, torture and death threats in Iraq, but unlike other Iraqi refugees they do not have Iraqi citizenship and are not allowed to enter Syria to seek asylum.

The language that absolves Israel
The language that absolves Israel
A special political vocabulary prevents us from being able to recognize what's going on in the Middle East.
By Saree Makdisi
June 19, 2009
On Sunday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech that -- by categorically ruling out the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state -- ought to have been seen as a mortal blow to the quest for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
On Monday morning, however, newspaper headlines across the United States announced that Netanyahu had endorsed the creation of a Palestinian state, and the White House welcomed the speech as "an important step forward."

Yep, that's how they do it, a language with a different dictionary all their
own!
"Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East" BLEEP, in order to have a "democracy" and be Jewish, Palestinians had to be ethnically cleansed-Jamal Zahalka.
Think about them apples Israel supporters. Think how Israeli "democracy" stacks up against our own democratic values, what the US stands for (in theory and striving) and I DO NOT THINK that Israel has the same understanding of "democracy"!!
They have their own dictionary! NOW I get it! (actually I got it quite a while ago)
"Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind". George Orwell
